NEWSPAPER report of the trial: Alfred Wells, aged 17, and Horace Blades, aged 18, both of Stamford, charged with slaughtering a lamb, the property of Mr. Thomas Standwell, of the Hotel, in a field at Wothorpe, on the night of Good Friday, were both committed for trial. It appeared that, after the animal was killed, part of it was taken to hovel in another field, occupied by Mark Wilson Jackson, Esq., surgeon, where a fire was made, and it was broiled for supper: the remainder of the lamb (a very fine one) was left in a ditch in the close where it was slaughtered, and of course it was rendered worthless."
