4/8/1849 Monmouthshire Beacon Monmouthshire, Wales: Wednesday.— (Before the Rev. M. H. Jones, D.D.) Wholesale House-Breaking. James Went was charged with breaking into the houses of Charles Laban, labourer, of Penyclawdd, and of Benjamin Grundy, labourer, of Llanishen, and stealing from each a quantity of wearing apparel, bread, cheese, &C. The prisoner, who is a present undergoing a term of imprisonment at our County Gaol for housebreaking, was proved to have had a portion of the goods in his possession, and to have pawned another portion at Mr. Woore's. The prosecutors, who are labouring men, had gone to their work and secured their cottages during their absence. On their return, they discovered that their houses had been broken into, and a quantity of their little property stolen.__The prisoner was committed for trial on both charges. James Went was single, 5'5" tall, dark hair, hazel eyes, long face, fresh complexion, build: proportionate, cut on left forefinger. 7/2/1853: TOL 16/9/1854: CP. 24/10/1854: Married Eliza Ann Emery, Adelaide, South Australia. Children: Charlotte Ann WENT Birth: 1855 Mary Ann (Polly) WENT Birth: 6 DEC 1856 Frederick WENT Birth: 14 FEB 1858 Harriet WENT Birth: 15 JUL 1859 Jessie WENT William James WENT Birth: 2 JAN 1861 Frederick Emery WENT Birth: 17 JUL 1862 James WENT Birth: 21 APR 1864 Rose WENT Birth: 19 DEC 1865 Louisa WENT Birth: 1870 25/5/1897: James died at Port Pirie, SA. He was a fisherman and painter, aged 71. He Was buried at St Judes Anglican Church Cemetery, Brighton, SA. Eliza Emery arrived in SA per John Renwick 20/2/1837. Eliza died 25/7/1915 at St Leonards, SA.
