Trade: Attorney’s clerk. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- National Archives. Criminal Petitions. HO 17/61/190. Date. 1838 Nov – 13839 Feb. Prisoner name: Dean Chammey West. Court and date of trial: Dublin Lent Assizes, March 1835. Crime: Forgery. Initial sentence: Transportation for life. Annotated (Outcome): Nil. Petitioner(s): Jane West of 29 Upper Temple Street, Dublin, the prisoner's mother, and Dean Chammey West, the prisoner, undersigned by 11 prominent inhabitants of Dublin. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner was very young when he committed the offence 'in the giddiness of youth and inexperience'; he was of previous excellent character and education; the judge would have recommended mitigation if requested; the prisoner has conducted himself well and desires to remain in the colony with a free pardon.
