John Weston was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 14th Jul 1816 and arriving 20th Dec 1816 with 150 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

John WESTON – per Surry 1 (2), born 1796, native place Dublin Co, quarryman, was convicted of burglary and robbery. He was tried before Judges Day and Daly in Dublin City on 17 February 1816, and sentenced to death, respited to transportation for life. He was admitted to Kilmainham Gaol on 22 December 1815 (prisoner #2049), and was discharged from the jail on 16 May 1816 to be “sent on board the convict ship”. Two of his co-accused, Matthew McMANUS and George MEALEY, were sentenced to death and executed on 18 March 1816; while a third, Joseph McMANUS, a labourer (born 1794; native place Dublin Co), had his sentence respited to transportation for life and was on board the Surry 1 with Weston (see Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924; Dublin, Kilmainham 1815-1910).
