WALTHAM GANG. William Rush, James Westwood, George Westwood, Joseph Chessum, Robert Wolfe, James Jeffery, and Robert Litchfield were indicted for burglariously breaking and entering the dwelling-house of John Chapman, at Waltham Holy Cross, in this in this county, and plundering the house of a variety of articles set out in the indictment. Morning Advertiser, 12 March 1819. At the Chelmsford Assizes, 49 criminals received sentence of death. They were all reprieved, except Baker, Litchfield, Palmer, Reed, and Wolfe, who were left for execution. Morning Advertiser, 16 March 1819.
