Born - Tipperary County Ireland. Single.
Andrew Arthur Whaling born 1814,Tipperary,Ireland, was found guilty of Street Robbery, he was Fined & Convicted in the Quarter Sessions at Leeds, County of York on 28th Dec.1837.He was sentenced to 10 years & Transportation to the Penal Colony in New South Wales, Australia. He served seven months of his sentence in London before deportation on the ship Earl Grey on 22nd Nov 1838. The ships Commander was James Talbot. On the ships Manifest he is listed as being uneducated, Roman Catholic & his native place was Tipperary, Ireland. His occupation was as a Weaver. His fathers name was Michael, his mothers name not listed.He was imprisoned at Hyde Park Barracks. He worked on Road gangs & construction sites. He was sent to work for a Landholder at Jamberoo near Kiama on the South Coast of N.S.W. in 1841. He obtained his Ticket Of Leave no 44/1910. and was allowed to remain in the area growing potatoes & vegetables for several years.On 11 April 1852 he married Agnes Spithill at Kiama Roman Catholic Church. Now known as Arthur Andrew Whalen. Andrew & Agnes moved to Macleay River in 1864 on the boat "New Moon".They landed at Millers Wharf near Gladstone.He died 29 August 1886 at Austral Eden, N.S.W Death Cert#114553. Cause of death was Senile Decay. His age is stated as being 72 years of age. He is buried in the Roman Catholic Section of Frederickton Cemetery. N.S.W. Nine children were born to Arthur & Agnes. I male & one female listed as deceased.The other seven were (1)John b06/02/1853,(2) Katherine b 21/03/1855,(3)Mathew b 21/04/1857,(4) Agnes b 1859,(5) Andrew b 1861. They were all born at Jamberoo.
