West Riding Christmas Sessions. George Abel (16), John Crann (17), Nicholas Marr . Patrick Whaling and Patrick Conley (15), were indicted for stealing money from William Hodgson at Bilton- with Harrogate. This was a common case of shop-lifting, but in consequence of the great number of persons who were necessarily called to prove the prisoners to have been together immediately before and after the robbery, the investigation occupied a long time. The prisoners were apprehended through the activity of Stubbs and Hartley of the Leeds Police, Police, the only two who are not required to wear the police uniform when on duty, and who happened to be happened to be in the neighbourhood looking after other persons. Jury found all the prisoners Guilty. The Court sentenced John Craven, to be imprisoned six months, Conley to be transported ten years, and Abel, Marr, and Whaling, to be transported seven years each. Yorkshire West Riding Christmas sessions - commenced Tuesday 5 Jan 1841. Patrick Whaling (20), with George Abel (16), John Crann (17) Nicholas Marr (16) and Patrick Conley (15) were indicted for stealing money from William Hodgson at Bilton with Harrogate. It was noted as a common case of shop lifting. Able, Marr and Whaling were transported for 7 years; Conley transported for 10 years. Om 16 Feb 1841, Patrick was moved from York Castle to the prison hulk 'Warrior'.
