Folio 9: case no 3, Ann Wheatcroft, aged 33, convict, taken ill in Plymouth Sound; sick or hurt, melancholia, gradually fell into a state of melancholy and remorse, 'slight delirium appeared shortly before her death; put on sick list not stated, died 3 December 1848 the Minister's evidence convincing the Coroner that her disease was mental he thought it unnecessary to order an examination of the body.

Wheatcroft was not her real name ... which is unknown. She took the surname of the man with whom she cohabited for years. She beat and starved his young son to death.
