Convict Notes
Berks Easter Sessions. John Wheeler, 34, convicted of stealing a pocket-book, fifteen shillings, two half sovereigns, &c. Old Windsor, on the ? of March , the property of James Wickens, was sentenced to be transported for seven years. Reading Mercury, 13 April 1835. On Friday, the under-named transports were removed to the Justitia hulk, Woolwich, pursuant to their sentences at the Easter sessions, namely,-John Maskell, for life ; James Bird, John Smith, Edward Collins, and John Wheeler, each for seven years. Reading Mercury, 27 April 1835.
John had five children to Elizabeth Exall, they where called Emma, Harriot, Sophia, Henry and Maria. John lef these all behind in Old Windsor UK when he was transported to Van Diemons Land. Sophia ended up in a Poor House in Old Windsor and lived to the age of 80 dying in 1910. Her direct decendants now live in Sunderland, England, UK. Ordered by the Court that John Wheeler who at this sessions was convicted of felony in stealing on the eighth day of March last at the Parish of Old Windsor in this County one leather pocket book of the value of six pence, one purse of the value of six pence, one canvas purse at the value of six pence, thirteen pieces of current gold coin of the realm called sovereigns of the value of thirteen pounds, two pieces of current gold coin of the realm called half sovereigns of the value of one pound, two pieces of current silver coin of the realm called five shilling pieces of the value of ten shillings and ten pieces of current silver coin of the realm called shillings of the value of ten shillings.
