1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

Convict Notes
The convict indentures state that John Whelan was 19 years old. He could neither read or write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of Dublin. His occupation was a porter. John was convicted of robbing cart on 22 October 1835 at Dublin City and sentenced to 7 year. He had one prior conviction and served 5 months. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 7 inches; complexion ruddy and freckled; hair dark brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 29. Prisoner number 36-1834. Received ticket of leave in 1841 (number 41/2139). Received Certificate of Freedom in 1846 (number 46/525).
