he Durham Advertiser Friday December 27, 1833 COMMITED TO THE COUNTY JAIL John Whinney the elder, and John Whinney the younger, charged with having stolen a sum of money the property of Mr J. B. Chapman, of Durham, grocer, & c. Durham Chronicle Friday January 3, 1834 DURHAM CHRISTMAS SESSIONS John Whinney the younger, aged 14, was convicted of having, during the last three months, stolen several sums of money, the property of his master, Mr Chapman, a grocer, in Durham; and John Whinney the elder was convicted of receiving the same, with a guilty knowledge. The elder prisoner to be transported 7 years, and the younger to be imprisoned 3 months - the last month to be solitary confinement. Durham Chronicle Friday January 24, 1834 COMMITTALS TO DURHAM GAOL SINCE OUR LAST On Thursday morning, Thomas Leghorn, Wm. Powton, Ralph Marley, and John Whinney, sen., convicts under sentence of transportation for 7 years, were sent off from our goal to the hulks at Woolwich.
