Star (London) London, England 14 Mar 1816: William Drake and Thomas Whitbread were indicted, the one for stealing, and the other for receiving, knowing it to be stolen, several trusses of hay and straw, the property of a farmer, at Barnish Rooding. The one prisoner, in this case, was the farmer's servant, and the other a toll-gate keeper. They were both found guilty. The servant was sentenced to two years imprisonment, and the receiver to 14 years transportation. Thomas Whitbread was listed as 30 years old on arrival. Native Place: Epping. Thomas was 5'3" tall, ruddy complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes. Thomas arrived NSW 10/3/1817 then on 28/9/1817 he arrived VDL per 'Elizabeth Henrietta'. 1830 Muster: TOL 2/4/1830: COF 10/6/1832: Married Helen Black (Mellish 1830) at Green Ponds, Tas. Thomas listed as a widower. 29/10/1852: Thomas Whitbread, aged 66 years, a farmer, died of Inflammation at Brighton, Tas. 1853: Thomas died Intestate - In his will?? it is listed that Richard Whitbread of Collins Street, Hobart Town, a Boarding House Keeper is the only son of the deceased. Seems Thomas was married to Mary??? in England, they had a son Richard listed as 1816 but Ancestry has the following: Richard Whitbread Gender: Male Baptism Date: 25 Dec 1815 Baptism Place: Essex, England Phillimore Ecclesiastical Parish Map: Father: Thomas Whitbread Mother: Mary Whitbread. 24/1/1853: Richard Wlhitbread arrived from London per 'Union' with wife and 5 children under 14.
