James White. https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON37-1-1$init=CON37-1-1p296 James White, convicted at Umballa, 20 March 1843,for 7 years, Transported for Striking Corporal Johnson with a bayonet., age 23, Roman Catholic, illiterate, single, 4 years in the Regt. 31st. Trade, tailor 4 years, native of Co. Kerry. F(ather) Jas. White, 1 B(rother) Garret, 2 S(isters) Bridget, Mary at N.P. Various offences recorded. Note - that he was convicted at Launceston as John Connell, and sentenced to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour in Feb 1853 Free Cert. 20.3.1850 Larceny. — John Connell was charged with stealing a pair of boots and a shirt, the property of a blacksmith at Fingal, named Hapsey. The jury found the prisoner guilty. Sentenced to two years' imprisonment. The Cornwall Chronicle, 19 Feb 1853.
