Convict Notes

1825 General Muster: John WHITE – free by servitude – Mary 1819, labourer Parramatta (see NSW and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849, New South Wales General muster M-Z 1825).

It is possible or even likely that John WHITE (15), Joseph HENNESSY (16) and John CAVANAGH (12) - all convicted in the Summer of 1818 at Cork City of "burglary and felony, and all aboard the Mary - were co-perpetrators/co-accused. Court records/newspapers reports do not confirm this (because there were none to be found). However, the Mary's Muster Roll lists them one after the other, all accused of the same offence, and tried on the same day, in the same place and given the same sentence. Surely there is a connection.

1832, 15 March: Reissued with a Certificate of Freedom #4/4356 after the original was “said to be lost nearby five years ago” but was "returned mutilated and cancelled" (see Certificates of Freedom, 1810-1814, 1827-1867; Registers of Certificates of Freedom, 1 Dec 1823 - Apr 1827, Jun 1828 - Dec 1833).

1819, 25 August: John WHITE 14, 4’10½”, florid complexion, black hair, dark eyes; native of Cork City (see NSW Convict Indents, 1788-1842; Bound Indentures 1818-1819). 1823, 24 November: See below. 1825, 13 June: John White per Mary 1, granted a Certificate of Freedom #4/3890, 5’6 ¼”, ruddy complexion, brown hair and dark eyes. Notation: “Sent to Port Macquarie 24 November 1823 for the remainder of his original sentence for stealing from a dwelling house” (see NSW Certificates of Freedom, 1810-1814, 1827-1867)
