Joseph White was 25 years old on arrival. Native Place: Somerset. Joseph was literate, Protestant, Single, 5'4½" tall, pale complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, right eye weak, J W on lower left arm; served 4 years at Chatham. RETURN OF ALL CONVICTS ASSIGNED BETWEEN THE 1ST DAY OF JANUARY AND THE 31sT DAY OF MARCH, 1832. 1257. White Joseph, Isabella (4), hawker, to William Dangar, Neatsfield. 21/11/1832: Hunter River - Absconded on the way to his master Mr. Dangar. 14/3/1833: William Dangar offering reward for 2 missing assigned servants - Robert Padfield and Joshua White (Hawker). 1837: Newcastle - Aged 28. Assigned to the iron gang at Newcastle. 9/1/1839: Maitland - Hawker aged 33 from Somerset. 5' 4 1/2"; fair ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes. Absconded from the Stockade at Maitland 27 December. 4/43/1840: Maitland - Apprehended after absconding from the Stockade at Maitland 15/10/1841: Newcastle - Assigned to John Marshall. Absconded while on a pass from Newcastle to Rosebrook. 29/10/1841: Rosebrook - Absconded from Lieut. Sampson Marshall 6th October.
