Margaret White was indicted for burglariously entering the house of Ellen Twomy in Paul Street, with intent to steal. The Jury found her guilty. His Lordship said—Margaret White, you have been found guilty of burglary—breaking into house at night, the punishment of which is death, and you are liable to lose your life. It is well that the penalty attached to such offences should be known, because they appear to be committed  in this City without any regard to the consequences which follow from them.  lf, however, they are repeated, the law must be sternly executed, and that sentence which I shall order to be recorded, will some time or other be carried into its most penal effects.  In this case I will hold out hopes to you that it may changed to transportation for your life, but short of that, you  cannot expect any mitigation of it.  Let sentence of death be recorded against the prisoner.  Cork Constitution, 25 Oct 1832.
