Family connections for Mary (White) may be: WHITE Mary (White) was born about 1774. She arrived in Australia as a convict in 1794 on SURPRISE-on which much socialising between soldiers & young female convicts is recorded. She married as an emancipist firstly Archibald Balfour (Wood) clerk on 20 8 1817 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. Mary (White) does not have an entry on this Website as yet. >>>Noted a Mary (White) was tried at Surrey Quarter Sessions, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 7months on Fleet ship SURPRISE. Archibald Balfour (Wood/s) was tried at Wexford co.Ireland in 1811, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 16 2 1813 after a journey of 9months on ARCHDUKE CHARLES. He was a clerk in 1817. He arrived in Australia as a marine/corporal on 26 1 1788 on First Fleet ship HMS SIRIUS. He was sent to Norfolk Island on 2 10 1788 & returned to Sydney in February 1791 [the Ref.'People...' has him arriving on 6 3 1788]. He was discharged as marine in October 1791 & sent to Norfolk Island arriving on 26 10 1791. In 1792 he was granted 60acres at Norfolk Island. On 24 6 1793 he enlisted with NSW Corps. He left Norfolk Island on 6 11 1794. In 1795 he was a Corporal. On 24 7 1798 he was discharged. In 1800 he was granted 200acres at Liberty Plains. He was a storekeeper in 1801. He was granted 100acres at Bankstown & 31rods in Sydney in 1806 & 208acres at Parramatta in 1809. He married secondly Mary (White/Woods her second marriage) on 27 11 1821 at St Lukes CofE Liverpool. He produced 6known children in his lifetime. Details of John (Gowen/an)s family are given in entry for Audrey (Appleyard EARL CORNWALLIS n1801) on this Website. [Noted a Mary (Woods) was recorded as dying on 25 2 1824 & buried at St Peters CofE Campbelltown; actually there were many Mary (White/Woods) in the colony at this time; could she have had relationships with John (Cahill) COROMANDEL 1804, Wiliam (Adams) ROYAL ADMIRAL 1800 or ???
