395 ton ship. Departed Cork, Ireland for New South Wales, Australia 1809. After leaving Australia, for New Zealand, the vessel was set upon by natives from Bay of Islands and most onboard the ship were massacred (including cannibalization). The boat was captured and towed to Motu Wai (Red Island) were it was totally destroyed.

IRISH CRiME: At the age of 17 Simon White was found guilty of raping a girl named Rose Devitt, at Linerick. Freemans Journal 11 Jan 1809, p4: Simon White, who was, for a rape, committed to Limerick Jail on Wednesday last, effected his escape that evening by a fellow named Thomas Normoile, who visited him, exchanging clothes; [Normoile] however is detained, and it appears there had been informations lodged against him for former offences. BELFAST NEWSLETTER Fri 27 january 1809, page 2: Limerick, January 18, 1809 CITY COURT Yesterday, [i.e. 17 January]Simon White was tried for a rape on the body of Rose Devitt, on the 4th Dec last, a girl aged 15 years. It appeared on the trial that he not only committed the offence, but he assisted two others in perpetration of the abominable crime -verdict GUILTY, but he was recommended to mercy on account of his youth, being only 17 years old. at page 3 - Yesterday, .. sentence of death [on] Simon White for the rape upon Rose Devit. FREEMANS JOURNAL, Feb 11th 1809 page 3 The High Sheriffs of this City received on Monday a communication from Government, whereby His Grace the Lord Lieutenant has been pleased to stay the execution of Simon White, who was to suffer death for a rape, on Saturday next, ad to order transportation for life - he yesterday was transmitted for Cork to be put on board the receiving ship in that harbour for Botany Bay. Departed Ireland in December 1810, then aged a19 or almost 189 years old. AUSTRALIA On arrival was forwarded from NSW to Tasmania per "Union" immediately upon arrival. Tasmanian Conduct Record: CON31-1-45 (digitised image 14 of 376) The Conduct Record for Simon White is blank. From Tasmanian Founders & Survivors Website: 6ft 5 % 3/4 inches tall. grey eyes, brown, curly hair, pockpitted skin. Labourer. Musters 1830 -1835 - Absconded in 1820. ?
