I have his ticket to leave document which I have been able to extract the following information:-Jonathan Whiting Transported for Highway Robbery on the 17th March 1823 Ticket of Leave issued to convict, Jonathan Whiting, detailing his record from his arrival in Australia December 1823 and his harsh treatment in custody twice involving 50 Lashes, Tread Wheel and several periods of time on the Chain Gang, up to his transport to Port Arthur on the 24th July 1833 for stealing Mutton. Then on the 6th May 1835 where he was given 7 Days Solitary Confinement for “Contemptuous language” and finally his Ticket of Leave in 1838 after 15 years in confinement. Feb 22nd 1835 Feigning sickness 50 Lasher & 2 month Chain Gang Dec 9 1827 Absent from Premises last night at ½ past 8 o’clock. Reprimanded Jan 13th 1827 Found in the New Police Office yard last night between 9 and 10 o’clock in company of female prisoner. 2 Months Chain Gang March 7Th 1827 No 2 Chain Gang : Neglect of duty & fighting with the men employed in the gang. Sentence 1 month extra in Chain Gang. Jan 27Th 1829 Riotous conduct in the street and absent from his lodgings after hours last night. No proof? April 6th 1830 Being in company with Lydia Chandler a Convict illegally at large in the house of one Colley, yesterday morning and falsely stating he was free. 50 Lashes Dec 28th 1839 Found drinking at Morrissey’s Public House with Capt “Bambers” female servant whom he took from the gate of the Police Office. 10 Days T (Tread) Wheel. July 24th 1833 Stole 9lbs Mutton & 3? the goods of James Hill complainant . Trial and Sentenced to be transported 7 years at Port Arthur. April 25th 1834 In No 2 Chain Gang 6Th May 1835 P. Courthouse. Contentious Language towards Mr G H Jackson , Master of the Cutter Charlotte. 7 Days Solitary Confinement. T L (Ticket to Leave) 24th May 1838
