Convict Notes
On Friday last the six following convicts were removed from Ipswich County Gaol, to be put on board the Leviathan Hulk at Portsmouth, viz. Robt. Stringer, Thomas Corbold, and David Corbold, to be transported for 14 years; and Wm. Howard, Samuel Whiting, and John Parker, for 7 years. Bury and Norwich Post, 8 Aug 1832.
At Suffolk Midsummer Sessions, 1830, Samuel Whiting was convicted of larceny & sentenced to six months imprisonment. (Ancestry.com. England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892) On 4 Aug 1832, Samuel Whiting, aged 19 years, convicted at Ipswich, on 6 Jul 1832, of larceny & previous offences, and sentenced to 7 years transportation, was received on board the prison hulk "Leviathan." (Ancestry.com. UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849) Samuel was 21 years old on arrival - 5'9¾" tall, fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, flower, fish, S S W J 1830 T on left arm, serpent, mermaid, anchor right arm. 25/12/1837: Married Julia Lambert at Campbell Town., Tas.
