John Whittaker was convicted at Stafford on 02/08/1843 for stealing sugar. 7yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land on the 'Marion' arriving 04/04/1844. Gaol Report: good disposition and orderly in prison. Hulk Report: good Married (wife Mary), 4 children. Father: Benjamin Brothers: Benjamin, Richard & William Sisters: Mary, Elizabeth & Jane Native Place: Shardlow Boatman; aged 36yrs; 5'4"; ruddy complexion; brown hair; brown eyes; can read & write; Protestant. 12mths Probation at Jericho (southern midlands, Tasmania) Ticket of Leave 23/05/1848 Free Certificate 08/08/1850
