Thomas (also k/a Joshue) WHITTAKER was convicted at Knutsford, Chester, England on 24 Nov 1845 for stealing woolen cloth. Previously convicted for stealing clothes (2 mths prison). 14 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the 'Palmyra' arriving there 23 Aug 1846. Aged 19 yrs; single man; worked as an iron founder; 5'5 1/4" height; Protestant; can read & write a little; fresh complexion; sandy hair; blue eyes; stout build; slight impediment with speech. Native place of birth: Manchester. Brothers: Thomas & James Sisters: Mary & ......
