Abel Wigley was 23 years old on arrival in VDL and was transported for 'stealing 5 sovereigns from a fellow servant named Thomas Marsden'. Abel was 5'4 1/2" tall, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, can read, protestant, Scar on back of right wrist, mole left side of chin, mole back of left arm. Native Place: Snelson. Mother: Catherine Brothers: Daniel, George, Humphrey, William Sisters: 5 Eliza, Catherine, Mary, ?? Probation Gang stationed at Fingal. 14/3/1844: Probation expired. 1/9/1846: TOL 24/10/1848: Free Certificate. 26/3/1852: A. Wigley, departed Hobart Town to Williamstown per 'Sir Henry Smith'. 22/10/1877 The Mercury, Hobart: NOTICE.-If this should meet the eye of ABEL WIGLEY; who has been living in Tasmania or District for years, his Nephew WILLIAM NASH, of Derbyshire, England, now of Goulburn, New South Wales, would be very happy to communicate with him.
