1825 Journey. On Saturday morning (3 Dec) arrived from London and Dublin, the ship Henry Porcher, Captain John Thompson, with 175 male prisoners, having lost one man - the rest in good health. She sailed from London the 10th of July, and Dublin the 5th of August. The guard comprises a detachment of the 47th Regiment, under the orders of Captain Donaldson. The Surgeon Superintendent is Dr. CARTER, R. N. Sydney Gazette, 5 Dec 1825.

John Wigley, convicted of setting fire to his landlord's stable at Foot's Cray, sentenced to Death, and left for execution, without hope of mercy in this world, not having committed the crime by distress, but solely from revenge. County Chronicle, 18 Mach 1834. The undermentioned convicts were on Thursday last removed from the County Gaol, and put board the Fortitude Hulk, at Chatham: John Bull, William Hunt, Richard Fry, Francis Kenny, Edward Reel, John Wigley, William Potter, Thomas Maytum, Edward Mnlraine, transported for life ; … South Eastern Gazette, 29 April 1834.




24/3/1834 Salisbury and Winchester Journal Wiltshire, England: Assizes, on Saturday last, James Wigley, a labourer, aged 30, was found guilty of setting fire to a stable belonging to John Massee, at Footscray, in February last, and sentenced to hanged. 1837: Aged 32, Assigned to Rev. G. K. Rusden, Maitland. 11/3/1843: Maitland - John Wigley lost Ticket of Leave. Request to return it to police office. Native place Hampshire. Per 'Henry Porcher' in 1835. Sentenced for life. Farm servant. 5'31/2" brown hair grey eyes. 10/7/1848: CP No marriage found. This may be his family: Hannah Wigley was an assisted immigrant who arrived in NSW aboard the ship Templar in Aug 1844: Wigley, Hannah age 29, single, domestic servant and nursery maid, native of Kent, daughter of John Wigley a farmer and Jessamine, the latter dead, Protestant, could read and write, under the protection of her father payed his passage in the steerage, has a brother in the colony, gone with her father, a paying passenger by the Templar, to a brother at Maitland. Hannah married Joseph Henry BRAILEY, son of James BRIELEY and Maria DAWSON.
