Thomas married Elizabeth McBean and had 6 children at Portland between 1864- 1869. He died in the Portland Benevolent Asylum & Hospital and was buried at North Portland Cemetery.

Old Bailey: WILLIAM MADDAMS, THOMAS WIGLEY, Theft > pocketpicking, 24th October 1836. Offence: Theft > pocketpicking Verdict: Guilty > no_subcategory; Guilty > no_subcategory \WILLIAM MADDAMS and THOMAS WIGLEY were indicted for stealing, on the 1st of October, 1 handkerchief, value 2s., the goods of George Lawrence Andrews, from his person. GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS. I live in Vincent-place, City-road. On the 1st of October, about half-past eleven o'clock in the morning, I was in Aldersgate-street, the officer spoke to me, and we took both the prisoners up a court opposite the Albion Tavern, and found my handkerchief on Maddams—this is it—I was not aware of its being taken. JOHN WILLIAM HARRISON. I am an officer of Aldersgate-street, and observed the prisoner following the prosecutor—Wigley took up the skirt of his coat, took the handkerchief out, and gave it to Maddams—I secured them, and found the handkerchief on Maddams—I had observed them following the gentlemen for about ten minutes—they were acting together. WIGLEY— GUILTY . Aged 16. MADDAMS— GUILTY . Aged. 18. Transported for Seven Years. William Maddams arrived NSW per Mangles 1837. Thomas Wigley was 17 years old on arrival in VDL and was transported for 'Stealing a handkerchief from a Gentleman. Previous convictions: Once for suspicion of stealing a book, 1 month and again 3 weeks. Thomas was 5' 0 1/2" tall, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, I inside left arm, single. Native Place: Ludgate Hill. 1845: Free Certificate. 17/8/1846: Passenger per 'Union' George Town to Adelaide. The following comes from the Carapook and "Muntham" Settlers & Families" website: WIGLEY : Thomas WIGLEY (~1816-1892) married Elizabeth McBEAN in 1853 and had 6 children at Portland 1864-1869 where he appears to have been a chimney sweep and carrier. In 1871 he was working at "Muntham" and died in the Portland Benevolent Asylum & Hospital in 1892. Not many Thomas Wigley's about but still was unable to connect this man to the convict.
