War Office Records. Registers Court Martial. https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-1606814777/view Privates John Reed, Geo. Brown, John Dawson, Wm Farmer, Wm Briffet, Thos. Jones, alias Moran, and Willm. Martin, Privates in 55th Regt, Tried at Jersey, Aug, 1818 for Desertion by absenting themselves from Barracks & feloniously taking possession of a boat, in order to quit the island. Sentences: Reed, transported for 14 years; Brown, transported for 7 years; Dawson, to receive 1000 Lashes; Farmer, to receive 700 Lashes; Briffet, transported for his Natural Life, Jones, Transported for his natural life, Martin, to receive 1000 Lashes. Case sent 26 December 1818 for confirmation before the Prince Regent.

The John Barry had arrived at Portsmouth on 16 April 1819 and on 20 April, 60 male convicts were embarked from the hulk Laurel and 80 from the hulk Leviathan in Portsmouth harbour. On 23 April 1819 two more convicts were sent on board the John Barry from the Leviathan. One of the passengers on board the John Barry was John Thomas Bigge, New South Wales’ first Royal Commissioner. The John Barry finally arrived at Port Jackson on Sunday 26 September 1819 (See The Campbelltown Convicts).
