Stephen Swords, George Corcoran, and James Flaherty, were charged with burglary on the house of Mr. George Cowell, Capel-street, and stealing from it three rolls of tobacco; and John and Rose Marlowe with receiving same, knowing it to be stolen. Some persons passing through Capel street saw the tobacco lying at the door of Mr, Cowell's  shop, and on attempting to take it up, were surrounded by a number of fellows among whom were Corcoran and Swords, who jostled them and took it from them ; an alarm was given to the police, and  the prisoners were followed to Marlowe's house, where they lodged, and where it appeared some of the tobacco was found. The jury returned a verdict against Swords and Corcoran for the larceny, but not for the burglary, and acquitted the other prisoners, who were discharged. The Pilot, 4 Nov 1831. Stephen Swords and William Corcoran, for stealing a quantity of tobacco, to be transported for seven years. Drogheda Journal, 5 Nov 1831.
