Convict Notes
At the Assizes for the county of Somerset, the following prisoners were capitally convicted, and received sentence of death - … W. Davis, for house-breaking; … The six first were left for execution,; the others reprieved. Salisbury Journal, 6 April 1807.
On 9th January 1822 he married Harriet Neat who already had a son, Henry (usually recorded as Henry Davis but it is not known if he was William's son or his step-son). Their daughter Caroline was born in 1822. William and Harriet owned a property named Pleasant Place near Oatlands. In 1823 William and four others were convicted of stealing 107 sheep and they were hanged on 14th April 1823. William had previously transferred the land to Harriet.

Police Office, Hobart Town, May 9th, 1822. FORTY POUNDS REWARD. —Whereas Ralph Churton, Wm. Davis, John Wm. Bostock, and Daniel Church, whose Offences and Descriptions are set forth underneath, have absconded from their usual Places of Residence, and are now at large in the Woods: —A Reward of Ten Pounds each will be paid on their being lodged in His Majesty's Gaol at Hobart Town. By Order of A. W. H. Humphrey, Esq. J.P. Superintendent of Police, W. English, Clerk. R. Churton —charged with stealing, on the night of the 26th Feb. last, 107 Sheep from the Farm of John Cassidy at the Old Beach, and making his Escape from a Guard, in whose Custody he was at Roseneath Ferry, on the night of the 28th April last. He was born in Warwickshire; is 5 ft. 6 ins. high, brown hair, hazel eyes, 32 years of age, a labourer, was tried at Warwick in 1811, and sentenced to be transported for 7 years ; he arrived here in the ship Indefatigable in 1812. W. Davis —charged with stealing, on the night of the 26th of Feb. last, 107 Sheep from the Farm of John Cassidy at the Old Beach, and making his Escape from a Guard, in whose Custody he was at Roseneath Ferry, on the night of the 28th April last. He was born at Bristol, is 5 ft, 6½ins. high, brown hair, grey eyes, 38 years of age, was tried at Taunton in 1807, and sentenced to be transported for 7 years ; he arrived at Port Jackson in the ship Admiral Gambier, and here in the ship Union, and lately resided at the Lovely Banks. J. W. Bostock —charged with feloniously forging and uttering a Promissory Note. He is 5 ft. 3 ins. high, dark Complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, about 30 years of age, and by profession a clerk. D. Church (356)-charged with cutting and wounding John Pernell, at New Norfolk, on the night of the 27th March last. He was born at Ashford in Kent, is 5 ft. 9 ½ ins high, hair brown to grey, hazel eyes, 33 years of age, a labourer, and has a scar on his upper lip; was tried at Maidstone, and sentenced to be transported for 7 years; he arrived at Sydney in the ship Morley in 1817, and here in the brig Prince Leopold.
