William Marks was transported on the Hercules, departing 24th Dec 1824 and arriving 7th May 1825 with 135 passengers.
The "Hercules" ship was built in 1801 at South Sheilds, England. 1801 voyage from Ireland to New South Wales, Australia. Sailed via Rio de Janeiro and the Cape. A mutiny occurred just prior to their arrival at Rio - after 45 minutes it was quashed but 13 convicts had been killed. Jeremiah Pendergass was named as the ring leader and shot. 44 deaths in total on this voyage. There was then another ship, also named, "Hercules" built 1822 at Whitby, England who made 3 trips to Austraia, in 1825, 1830 & 1832.

22/1/1824 Bath Chronicle: Wm. Marks for stealing 8 lbs of cheese belonging to Giles Mizen, at Trowbridge. William Marks was 23 years old on arrival. Native Place: Wiltshire. William was 5'4¾" tall, light brown hair, grey eyes, very well. Assigned to Best. Colonial Secretary Papers: MARKS, William. Per "Hercules", 1825 1825 Jul 19: On return of convicts who have money lodged in the Savings Bank of New South Wales (Reel 6063; 4/1784 p.295b) 1/3/1831: COF 29/11/1832: Permission to marry Catherine Lyham (Palambam) she was 21 and on Bond - William was 29 and free. No marriage listed on the NSW BDM. 5/5/1834: COF renewed.
The following prisoners were sentenced as under: Seven Years Transportation. … Wm. Marks for stealing 8 lbs of cheese belonging to Giles Mizen, at Trowbridge; Francis Norris, for stealing corn, the property of Mr Goddard, of Cliffe Pypard. Bath Chronicle, 22 Jan 1824
