There was a William Satchell in NSW., and another one in SA., all around the 1850's and onward. 4/4/1866 Tasmanian Morning Herald: Larceny. William Satchell, charged by D. C. Morley with stealing certain goods, of the value of three shillings. Remanded to Thursday next. The above is the last mention of William Satchell in Tasmania. Found no departures, birth, or deaths.
Brother Thomas was also convicted of the same crime. Wife Martha née Bath was acquitted. Family legend says he was robbed and murdered on a ship bound for England. I would like to contact D Wong and compare.
William Satchell, for stealing a ewe sheep, the property of William Walford—Transported for life. Brother Thomas Satchell was also on board, charged with the same crime. William was listed as 32 years old on arrival; born near Bristol, Somerset shire. Father: Thomas, at native plae. Brothers: John, James, Thomas (on board) Sisters: Mary, Ann. William was 5'5" tall, light brown hair, blue eyes, little finger right hand crippled, illiterate. Married with 6 children - Wife Martha at native place. 13/3/1844: Assigned to J. & E. Geiss, Mount Nassau (Thomas was also assigned to the same master). 6/3/1849: TOL 2/12/1850: Married Mary Ann Wright (Tory 1848) at St. Gorges, Hobart. No children found. 14/12/1853: CP
