William Sweetingham was married at the time of his conviction: 1. Mary (Isaac) Sweetingham — married 19 Jul 1830 in Southampton, Hampshire, England. He married again in Tasmania: 2. Eliza (Newton) Sweetingham — married 20 May 1844 (to about 1847) in Tasmania, Australia. And again in Victoria: 3. Julia (Tobin) Sweetingham — married 31 Aug 1858 (to 1885) in Victoria, Australia. Both Australian marriages were confirmed by the Australian Vital Records Index 1788 - 1905.

Living with his daughter, Mary Taggart, and son-in-law Patrick Taggart at 3 Delamere Road, Portsea (Portsmouth), Hampshire as shown in 1891 census. Shown as a widower.age 80. His daughter has been married twice before. Whilst a convict in Tasmania he applied to marry anothe rconvict, Eliza Newton, butI cannot find a record of this marriage taking place.
