David Williams (proper name Harris) was convicted at Twerton in Devon, England on 25 Oct 1839 for stealing money. 7 yr sentence. Sent to Parkhurst Prison for Boys, Isle of Wight - had been there 4 years when transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the ship 'Mandarin' arriving 16 Oct 1843. Tailor; single; Protestant; can read & write. Native place - Bristol. 1 year Probation at Browns River, VDL. Released from 1st stage 4 Mar 1845. Other assignments in Colony. Discharged to his Freedom 8 Oct 1846 from Westbury (north of state) depot. Certificate of Freedom 27 Nov 1846.
