Absconded. William George, Speke, 23, shoemaker, Norwich, 5 feet 5 ¼ hazel eyes, light brown hair, fresh ruddy complexion, small hairy mole left side of chin, from Mr. William Lawson, Prospect. Sydney Gazette, 25 June 1832.




Southwark Sessions Yesterday these Sessions commenced at the Town Hall, … George Williams was indicted for stealing five shillings, and other monies, the property of John Browne. The prosecutor is a baker, residing in Tooley-street. The prisoner entered his shop in the evening, and reaching over the counter, emptied the till of Its contents. The prosecutor’s wife seized him, and detained him until the arrival of an Officer. The prisoner in defence, said he went into the shop to buy a penny loaf and dropped a halfpenny behind the counter, and when he reached over to look, after it, the witness seized him and charged him with robbing the till.
