1834, 10 December: Constable - absent from his post at night; fined 20/-. 1834, 19 December: Constable - neglect of duty; 10 days' solitary confinement on bread and water. 1835, 5 March: Constable - drunk; fined 10/- and reprimanded. 1836, 13 February: Constable - left post without leave; fined 10/-. 1836, 5 April: Constable - had in his possession salt meat for which he could not properly account; recommended to be dismissed from the police and sentenced to 9 months' hard labour on a road party. 1836, 23 September: Disobedience of orders; sentence with road party to be extended by 3 months (for all of the above entries, see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-46$init=CON31-1-46p176). 1848, 25 January: Certificate of Freedom (see Tasmania Convict Court and Selected Records, 1800-1899).


1832, July: On arrival in VDL, he was listed as 36, a labourer and single. He said he had a previous conviction for stealing casks, for which he had received a life sentence. He said he had served 8 years in Newgate before he was "pardoned" (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-46$init=CON31-1-46p176). 1833: John Williams was listed on a register as 5'8", dark brown hair and dark blue eyes; 36 years old; labourer from London (see Tasmania Convict Court and Selected Records, 1800-1899; Register; Alphabetical register of the appropriation of convicts in the North, 1833-1835).


1832, 20 February: John Williams, 36, was tried at the Old Bailey: "OLD COURT. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20. Third Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Sergeant Arabin. #664. JOHN WILLIAMS was indicted for stealing, on the 14th of January, 1 dead fowl, value 2s., the goods of Charles Baxter; to which he pleaded [guilty]. GUILTY. Aged 36. - Transported for Seven Years." (see oldbaileyonline.org) --0-- 1832, 7 March: John Williams was received from Newgate prison aboard the Retribution hulk at Woolwich. He was listed as having been tried at Middlesex on 16 February and this date is also on his VDL Conduct Record. He was sent from the prison hulk for transportation on 24 March (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849).
