NATIVE PLACE: Arran, Ireland. TRIED: He was tried, aged 14, on 7 October 1831 with two others for "the crime of theft by housebreaking [in the house of John McPherson] at Byres of Balmerino, Balmerino, Fife". He is listed as a mill spinner from Dundee (see http://catalogue.nrscotland.gov.uk/). HULK: He was received on board the hulk Justitia on 1 November 1831, along with his accomplices William Anderson, aged 14, and his brother Thomas Williamson, 16 - both of whom were sent with him aboard the Katherine Stewart Forbes (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849; Justitia Register 1803-1836). William Anderson died on the voyage, from cholera.
