Joseph Willis was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 31st Dec 1813 and arriving 28th Jul 1814 with 204 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Joseph Willis was 30 years old when indicted, at The Old Bailey, for stealing a sack, value 2s., and 4 bushels of wheat, value 35s., the property of Thomas Jordan and Robert Heath, farmers at Stanwell. 6/10/1809: Married Ann Green, at Langley Marish, Buckinghamshire. They had 1 child, James Born 31/12/1809-Died 31/1/11810. Joseph settledin Parramatta after he had served his 7 year sentence. 11/7/1820: Married Rosetta/Rose Murphy (Janus 1820) and they had 2 children, Mary 1821-1826 and John Aug/1825-22/11/1896. Rosetta also had an infant son Thomas when she arrived. Thomas died in 1845 30/8/1855: Joseph died, and is buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery at Parramatta, along with Rosetta who died in 1862.
