Convict Notes

ATHERSTONE On Saturday, the 4th inst., William Hough and Charles Wills, two notorious thieves, were apprehended by John Biddle, active Police Officer, for robbing the dwellinghouse of Mr. Joseph Toone. of Ratclifle Culey, in the parish of Witherley. It appears that Mrs. Toone had been to see Wells's company of riders, and Hough, knowing her, had contrived to place himself by her side, and while her attention was particularly directed some of the wonders of the performance, picked her pocket of the house-key, and the key of her drawers, and in company with Wills robbed the house of a 5s. piece, which is marked, a Queen Anne sixpence, sixpence of the present currency, three silk handkerchiefs, a gold ring, brooch, six silver teaspoons, and various other articles, her property. Hough had been liberated only the day before from Warwick Gaol where he had been undergoing a sentence of imprisonment for poaching ; and where lie had had the pleasure of dining the three previous Christmas-days. On Saturday last, both prisoners were taken before C. H Bracebridge. Esq., who committed them for trial at Warwick Sessions.
