Old Bailey 14 July 1813: Tried for being at large while under a sentence of transportation. Pleaded Guilty. Given Death sentence. Aged 25 years. Sentence must have been commuted to 7 years. First trial was on 28 October 1807 at Old Bailey for grand larceny - theft of 20 yards of velvet from linen draper Mr John Wells. Given 7 year sentence of transportation. NOTE: 1813 trial incorrectly refers to this first sentence being 14 years. Indent of Somersetshire: Native of Lincoln. 25 years, shoemaker. 5ft 3 & 3/4 inches tall. Brown hair, sallow complexion, hazel eyes. 1814 Arrival: forwarded to Windsor for distribution. 1828 Census FS, 7 yrs, 40 years old, Protestant. “Farmer”. 1828 Census: Lived with Elizabeth Webber, 49 years old per Canada (2) [1810 arrival] Canada Indent: Elizabeth Webber at Devon Assizes, July 1809, 7 yrs Elizabeth Webber may have been his “housekeeper” not formally his wife. Windsor & Richmond Gazette newspaper: Conducted a shoemaking business.
