Convict Notes

1825 - New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters. Year - 1825 Name; Jane Wilson Age; No details Class; F. S. Ship; Surprise - 1790 - 7 years Remarks\Assigned; LIVES with A Foster, Windsor

Jane Wilson alias Scanlan was sentenced to seven years transportation. She arrived in Sydney in 1794 aboard the Surprize. After marrying James Metcalf in 1807 she lived with Robert Forrester until his death. It seems that at some time in the late 1830s she reconciled with James Metcalf and they began living together again. Jane died aged 98 on 17 October 1854. Her name was registered in the bdm as Jane Metcroft. 1807: Married James Metcalf. Jane then lived with Robert Forrester until his death 14/2/1827. Then reconciled with James Metcalf. 17/10/1854: Jane died at Windsor - listed as Metcroft - she was 98.

Jane seems to have been with Robert Forrester (First Fleet Convict, Scarborough, 1788) from around 1814 until his death in 1827. The 4 children mention are clearly 4 of the 8 children he had with Isabella Ramsay (Third Fleet Convict, Mary Anne, 1791). No further records located. No record in the 1828 Census.

There are few records of Jane in the colony. 1800 Muster: - <AE207> Jane Scandall, alias Wilson, Surprize, TOL 202. 1805 Muster: - <A4816> Jane Wilson, Housekeeper to John Metcalf. - <C1374> Jane Wilson, Concubine, no children. 1811 Muster: - <6319> Jane Willis, Alias Scanding, tried April 1792, Kingston, 7 years. 1814 Muster: - <1492> Jane Wilson 4 children (off stores) Lives with R Forester.
