1831, 11 August: Thomas Hamilton, listed as 30, and John Wilson, listed as 32, both convicted for theft, were received aboard the Cumberland hulk. They were sent from there for transportation on 24 October. Duncan Robertson, 17, was sent to the Retribution, and transferred for transportation on 22 October (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). --0-- 1832: On arrival in VDL, John Wilson, a shoemaker, was single. He was 31, 5'11" tall with a dark complexion, dark brown hair and grey eyes (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON18-1-8$init=CON18-1-8p148). 1838, 24 February: Granted a Ticket of Leave. 1841, 6 January: Received a Conditional Pardon No.2829. 1843, 9 February: Granted a Free Pardon No.22 (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-46$init=CON31-1-46p160)

Tried at High Court, Edinburgh. [Note: The charge has been limited to theft only, no verdict is recorded for any of the accused, and the victims were reduced to two, John Vallance and Margaret Dunlop. However, hulk records, a petition by Thomas Hamilton and VDL Conduct Records all show the men were found guilty and sentenced to 14 years’ transportation.]
