Humble petition of Henry Wilson Wright, Most respectfully sheweth That your petitioner arrived in this Colony in the Shipley in March last and is sentenced to 14 years transportation but is taken off the State by John Nicholls of the Parramatta road. Your humble petitioner further begs to state to your Excellency that his wife has unfortunately arrived in this colony a prisoner on the Mary Ann, in May the present year, and being anxious to restore her to his bosom once more at his? in exile, humbly prayeth that your Excellency will be pleased to grant her release from the factory at Parramatta, he being fully capable to support her, for which your petitioner will as in duty bound ever pray, Henry Wilson Wright. NB. Your petitioners’s wife’s name is Mary Wilson Wright and the certificate of marriage can be produced. H.W.W. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Petition. Sydney Aug 10 1822. To F. Goulburn, About nine weeks ago I made a personal application to you, for permission to take my wife (who arrived in the Mary Anne) out of the factory, when after interrogating me respecting the means I had of maintaining her and giving satisfactory answers thereto, you humanely recommended me to Dr Douglas, who kindly acceded to the application. The person who I was then assigned to as Government Servant, is very willing to allow me to leave his employ, if you will grant permission I can as I before informed you, obtain by honest Industry, a good living for my wife and self; Inclosed you have Dr Mills Certificate , as to her conduct during the voyage here. I am sir, your most Gft Hble St. Henry Wilson Wright.




Our Sessions commenced and terminated on Saturday, at the Exchange, before the Worshipful the Mayor, and Recorder; when Henry Wilson Wright for uttering a five bank note, and Mary Wilson, for passing bad money, were found guilty and sentenced to transported 14 years each ; Chester Courant, 11 Sept 1821. --------------------------------------------------- HO 17/53/461819 Nov Prisoner name: Mary Wilson Wright. Court and date of trial: Chester [1819]. Crime: [Details of crime not stated]. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation. Annotated: 'Nil'. Papers: Letter from the convict in which she states that she had property and money to the value of £60 when arrested and asks for this money to be returned to her by the sheriff before she sets sail for New South Wales as she needs to buy articles to make the journey more bearable. Additional information: The convict is to be transported on the ship Mary Ann.
