Convict Notes
1860, 7 July: Robert Wilson, a cooper aged 64, and born in Edinburgh, died at the General Hospital in Hobart Town from delirium tremens (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD35-1-6p84j2k). Note: His DoB has been left at 1802 because his hulk admission record (for the Justitia) also gives his age as 30 in 1833, and estimated year of birth as 1802.
1851, 7 January: Robert Wilson was tried at the Hobart Town Quarter Sessions and sentenced "to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for 2 years" for stealing a bed key, hammer and other articles from Charles Hammond at Sandy Bay. This record gives his age as 53, and says he can read and write, is a widower and a Presbyterian (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON37-1-6$init=CON37-1-6p281). 1851, 27 January: He was listed as being at Port Arthur. 1852, 6 August: Robert Wilson was listed as being released from the "Prisoner Barracks to Freedom" (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON37-1-6$init=CON37-1-6p281). Footnote: He had been granted a Conditional Pardon on 27 May 1845 (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-47$init=CON31-1-47p17).
1833: On arrival in VDL, he was 30, and a widower with two children. He said he had been transported for breaking into a spirit cellar, and he had a previous conviction for stealing coopers' tools (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-47$init=CON31-1-47p17). This record is heavily overwritten and runs to more than one book entry. Only a few events are reported here. 1844, 16 February: He received a Ticket of Leave (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON32-1-4$init=CON32-1-4p110). 1848, 29 November: Robert Wilson was tried at the Hobart Town Quarter Sessions and sentenced "to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for 2 years" for stealing a saw and 2 shillings belonging to Matthew Carlile (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON37-1-4$init=CON37-1-4p411).
