Thomas WILSON was convicted at York, England for housebreaking and transported to New South Wales, Australia per the ship 'John Barry' arriving 1836 (7 yr sentence). This Thomas WILSON was further charged, at Bathurst, New South Wales on 29 May 1837 for stealing cattle, from his Master, James Walker of Sydney. Life sentence, commuted to 15 yrs. Served 8 years on Norfolk Island. Remarks and Conduct for this time is recorded on the VDL record. Ref: Conduct Record in 1844 links these two offences. On 14 June 1844 Thomas was transferred to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Lady Franklin'. Personal details, in 1844: a tailor, aged 24 yrs; 5'5" height; fresh complexion; brown hair; Hazel eyes; Protestant; can read & write; tattoos. Native place of birth: Whitby, England. Mother: Maria (ref. Convict Indent record) Colony of VDL: 21 months Primary Labour period. Assigned to work services. 22 Sept 1846: Ticket of Leave granted. 23 Feb 1848: Hobart - Larceny. Committed for trial. Guilty. Further 7 yr sentence. To be sent back to Norfolk Island for 2 yrs. 17 March 1848: at Port Arthur Penal Settlement. 3 May 1848: to be sent to Norfolk Island. Petition for a reduced sentence that he may not be sent to Norfolk Island. Refused. 13 May 1850: returned to VDL from N.I. per the 'Lady Franklin'.
