In July 1844 at the High Court of Justiciary, Thomas Wilson pleaded guilty to stealing 12/- and tobacco by housebreaking (no further detail but probably a shop) in Drumdryan (then located outside the City boundary in the County of Edinburgh. He received transportation for 7 years - see Scotsman newspaper 24 July 1844 p 3 on 'High Court of Justiciary'. Thomas WILSON was convicted at Edinburgh, Scotland on 22 July 1844 for housebreaking and stealing money. 7 yr transportation sentence. Previously convicted and been in prison. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Sir Robert Peel' arriving 26 Dec 1844. Ship Surgeon's Report: not of sound mind. single man; aged 32 yrs; a labourer; sallow complexion; brown hair; grey eyes; Protestant; not literate. Native place of birth: Edinburgh, Scotland. Mother: Jane Brothers: John, Adam, Andrew, James & xxxx Colony of VDL: 15 mths Probation Period 1st Station Gang: Browns River Remarks: "Reasonable allowance being made for him because of his natural stupidity, but capable of performing labour". 1846: Report - "not effective". 24 July 1851: Certificate of Freedom issued.
