Thomas WILSON was convicted at the CCC, London on 22 Aug 1842 for Larceny - stealing a saddle from Wm Roberts of Wigmore Street. His defence was that he was out of work and in great distress. His trade was a Groom. Previous conviction for receiving stolen goods. Gaol report: "bad connections". 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Cressy' arriving 20 Aug 1843. Ship surgeon's report: "good". Aged 20/21 yrs; single man; a Groom; Roman Catholic; can read & write; 5'3 1/2" height; fair complexion; black hair; brown eyes. Place of birth: St. James', Westminster, London. Father - John, at Lisson Grove Mother - Maria (or Marion) Brothers - John & James (ref. Convict Indent) Colony of VDL: 2 yr Probation Period. Station Gang: Deloraine (northern district) Good Conduct record. 1845: assigned to A.B. Jones Esq. 2 March 1847: Ticket of Leave granted. July 1847: Hobart - absent from his authorised residence. Admonished. 30 Jan 1849: Conditional Pardon approved.
