Thomas WILSON was convicted at Lancaster, England on 24 March 1842 for Forgery - a Life .... He was to receive a fee for doing so. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Earl Grey' arriving 14 Jan 1843. Ship surgeon's report: "highly recommended, a teacher on board ship". Married man - wife Anne. Aged 51 yrs; an accountant; Protestant; 5'4 1/4"; literate; fresh complexion; grey hair, balding; light Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: Leeds, England. Colony of VDL: 2 yr Probation Period. 23 March 1847: Ticket of Leave granted. 25 June 1847: Hobart - drunk. Note on record "Dead" but not dated.
