John Wingfield was convicted at CCC, London 4 Jan 1841 for robbing his employer. (also convicted was Kennedy). 14 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Layton' arriving 1 Sept 1841. Trader/book keeper/silk mercer; aged 23yrs; 5'8"; can read & write; Protestant; single man. Assignments in Colony. Records of misconduct. Ticket of Leave 14 Sept 1847 Conditional Pardon 27 Nov 1849 Married Charlotte Graham, transported per 'Phoebe', 1847. ref. 610/37/6/1847. Charlotte was later committed to Lunatic Asylum, New Norfolk and died 1892.
