1835 - Australia Convict Musters, Tasmania. No; 72. Assigned to her husband
Assize Intelligence. Transportation.— Fourteen years : Elizabeth Winter and Charlotte Winter, charged with stealing a sheep, the property of R L Line ; and Mary Snook, for stealing watch, &c. the property of John Trollop . . Bath Chronicle, 7 April 1825.
Elizabeth (Winter) is mother of Charlotte & also was convicted in Somerset Assizes in 1825 of receiving stolen goods, with her daughter, & sentenced to 14yrs transportation. She is described as good in gaol, her character unknown. Elizabeth (Winter) was married but estranged for 12months at the time; she had a son in Australia assigned to Mr? (Jellico). She had earlier been taken before the judges for stealing worsted goods and discharged. There are several males on this Website with the (Winter) surname, but not one that truly could be identified to this family. Elizabeth (Winter) was assigned to Mr?. (Basstian) On 9 1 1826 she was found out after hours & disobedient to her Masters orders resulting in confinement in a cell on bread & water 1week & returned to her Master. Then on 2 2 1826 she was again found absent from service for several days & sent to a Factory (Crime Class). She was next assigned to Mr? (Boyd) where she continued with repeated neglect of duty & insolence & on 10 7 1826 she was sent to a Factory for assignment in the country. On 7 9 1827, at a Factory, she was in the habit of singing obscene songs in the evenings, resulting in being locked up in the Ward for 3days. At the time of the 1832 & 1833 Musters she was assigned to Mr? (Castles). In the 1835 Muster she was shown as assigned to her husband. Elizabeth (Winter) was Free by Servitude on 29 3 1839.
