Uriah Winterbottom was convicted at Lancaster on 13/04/1840 for stealing kettles and cloth. 7yr sentence. Previous offences. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Hindostan', arriving 19/01/1841. Gaol Report: bad character Hulk Report: orderly Aged 16yrs; 4'10 1/2"; Protestant; read & write; labourer; sallow complexion; dk brown hair; brown eyes; single. Native place of birth: Ashton under Lyne. Brothers: Joseph; Thomas (later transported to VDL on "Lady Montagu' 1852). Sisters: Sarah & Mary. Station Gang in Colony: Point Puer (settlement for boys, near Port Arthur). Troublesome and numerous records of misconduct. Sentence expired 13/04/1847.
