William was transported together with his brother Richard and other members of The Aldington Gang - a gang of smugglers from Aldington, Kent, England.




William WIRE was convicted at Kent, England on 6 Jan 1827, along with his brother Richard for aiding and abetting smugglers. Life sentence. Gaol Report: "very orderly and correct". Hulk Report: "good". Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship "Governor Ready" in 1827. Single man; Protestant. Brother: Richard Wire, also transported to VDL. Colony record: Clear Conduct record. Conditional Pardon approved 24 May 1839. No. 2088.
